Over the past twenty years, Clancy has choreographed and performed throughout the world: She was the youngest choreographer to present at the Suzanne Dellal International World Dance Competition in Tel Aviv; and, the sole student choreographer to represent the United States in the International College Dance Festival in Kobe, Japan, which toured to Tokyo and other Japanese cities. Adrienne has taught and performed at the Open Look Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia and toured her work along side the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange (LLDX). As a member of LLDX Clancy has taught modern dance techniques for the Dance and Community Partnerships Workshop at the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival. Her choreography has been performed internationally in England, Colombia, Paraguay, Israel, Mexico, Japan, and Poland. Clancy was a member of the Bella Lewitzky Dance Company; a Rehearsal Director, Project Director, and Company Member for the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange; a principal dancer for Nora Reynolds Dance and RoCoCo Modern Dance Company; and guest artist for: Maida Withers Dance Construction Company, Victoria Marks, Bill Evans Dance Company, Paradigm Dance Company, Doug Hamby Dance, and Cathy Paine Mixed Media. Clancy is currently working on a PhD and recently completed her MFA in Dance from Texas Womans University. Clancy holds a BFA in Choreography from Virginia Commonwealth University and a MA in Dance, History & Criticism from University of New Mexico. Clancy continues to write, most recently penning the foreword for Reminiscences of a Dancing Man, a book written by Bill Evans and published by the National Dance Association in 2006. In addition, she has been commissioned to write for the Oxford University’s International Encyclopedia of Dance. She currently teaches at American University (DC), George Mason University (VA), and the University of Maryland College Park (MD). As the Founding and Artistic Director, Adrienne Clancy dedicates her artistic life to ClancyWorks: a Maryland based non-profit company consisting of highly qualified local and national artists. Through the motto: Shifting Perceptions Through Performance and Education, ClancyWorks uses the arts as a vehicle to develop mutual understanding and advance positive social action. Justin Bellamy (Company Member, AiE Teaching Artist) began dancing at a very young age, in conjunction with his early training as a gymnast. He was an original member of Culture Shock International Hip Hop Dance Troupe of Washington, DC until 2003, when he received a scholarship to dance at the Ohio State University-Columbus. There, he studied intensively in classical ballet, modern, and African techniques. He has performed works by notable choreographers, including Robert Moses, Bebe Miller, and Larry Keigwin. To supplement his university studies, he taught on faculty at BalletMet Columbus. He has trained on scholarship with Alonzo King's LINES Ballet in San Francisco, CA, and also in France where he performed works by Christopher Huggins. In 2006, he was handpicked by choreographer Gil Duldulao, and invited to audition for Janet Jackson. Currently, he is a dancer with Dissonance Dance Theatre contemporary ballet company. Justin dances and teaches with the ClancyWorks Dance Company. Glenna Blessing (Company Member) is a full time member of the dance faculty at Carver Center for Arts and Technology, and previously served as an assistant professor in the Dance Department at Goucher College. She helped to write the middle school elective curriculum for the Baltimore County Public Schools. Blessing has performed nationally and throughout Canada with several companies including the University of Oregon Repertory Dance Company, Howard County Ballet, and Ballet Theatre Pennsylvania. She received her B.A. in Dance from Goucher College in 1998 and her M.F.A. with a dual emphasis in Dance Science and Performance/Choreography from the University of Oregon in 2001. Glenna has been a member of ClancyWorks Dance Company since 2005. Ilsa Bush (Administrative and Writing Consultant) received her undergraduate degree from Harvard University and her law degree from Arizona State University. Ilsa is a writer, teacher, lawyer, dancer, and health care advocate with experience in the fields of banking, health, and the arts. Since 2006 Ms. Bush has prepared grant proposals and reports for ClancyWorks and advises the Artistic Director on a variety of matters. Ms. Bush currently teaches ballet at George Washington University and at studios in the Washington, DC, area. She has taught dance appreciation at George Mason University. Ms. Bush practiced law in corporate, law firm, and government settings. Starting as in-house counsel with a savings and loan association, Ms. Bush later pursued her specialty by working in the General Counsel’s office of the Federal Home Loan Bank Board. There she became Director of the division advising the Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corporation. In that job she negotiated and documented mergers, acquisitions, receiverships, and liquidations of failing thrift institutions. Ms. Bush subsequently moved to a private law firm where she continued to work on savings and loan association matters including deposit insurance, mergers, changes of control, and conversions from mutual to stock form. As Chair of the Government Relations Committee of the Tourette Syndrome Association (TSA), she has been a strong advocate on Capitol Hill for children’s health and education issues. Tyra Jackson (Apprentice, AiE Teaching Artist) is a native of Mobile Alabama and graduated from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa with a Major in Dance and a Minor in Communication. She is currently a teaching artist and apprentice dancer for ClancyWorks. Tyra also serves as a Dance Place Intern where her duties include working with the Energizers after school program, Development office, and Studio and House Manager. Additionally, she is the Urban Energy and Dance Combo instructor for The Dance Place Kids on the Move program and the technique coach and a choreographer for the Cesar Chaves Public Charter School for Public Policy of the Parkside campus. Previously, Ms. Jackson created and presented works in the annual Alabama Dance Festival and Dance Alabama from 2007-2010 and served as a Business Intern for Jacobs Pillow Dance Festival in 2009. Torens Johnson (Company Member, AiE Teaching Artist) began his dance training at the Governors’ Magnet School of the Performing Arts in Norfolk, VA. After graduating from high school Mr. Johnson moved to New York City where he studied at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center. After dancing with Ailey II for two years, Mr. Johnson moved to Kansas City to work as the Artist-in-Residence with the Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey. Upon leaving Kansas City, Mr. Johnson moved to Baltimore, MD where he attended Towson University to study Dance Education. Mr. Johnson’s performing credits include Stephanie Powell Dance Ensemble and Wylliams/Henry Dance Theater. Previously, Mr. Johnson was the Director of Dance, at Paseo Academy of the Fine & Performing Arts. Currently Torens dances with ClancyWorks and teaches for many of the Company’s Arts in Education Programs. Allison Pearsall (Program Coordinator, Company Member, AiE Teaching Artist Mentor) is currently the Program Coordinator for ClancyWorks. Previously, Ms. Pearsall was the Manager of Educational Services for Towson University's Children's Dance Division. She graduated summa cum laude from Towson University with a BFA in Dance Performance and Education and is certified to teach dance K-12 in public schools. Allison was the 2007 recipient of the Alexander E. Sidorowicz Memorial Scholarship for her work in dance education and teaches for the ClancyWorks Arts in Education programs and at Dance Place. Ms. Pearsall continues to dance with the ClancyWorks Dance Company and VTDance. Meghan Pilling (Company Member, AiE Teaching Artist) originally from Lusby, MD, received her BFA in dance with a concentration in choreography, and an arts management minor from Marymount Manhattan College in New York City. There she performed works by students, faculty and guest artists including Patricia Catterson, David Parsons, Merce Cunningham, Peter Kyle, and Takehiro Ueyama. She has had her work presented at New York's Dance Theater Workshop in the Bessie Schonberg Theater as a part of DTW's College Lab program. Recently she performed the work of Tomoko Maeda at the Young Choreographer's Festival in the Peter Jay Sharp Theater in New York City. This season marks her debut with ClancyWorks. Natalia Pinzon (Company Member, AiE Teaching Artist) is a native of Bogota, Colombia, who has lived and studied in Brazil, the United Kingdom and Colombia. Natalia has also dedicated much of her efforts to spreading the joy of dance in her hometown, teaching in ballet academies and schools. She has received various awards including two second places in the XI and XII Brasilia International Dance Seminars and scholarships from Jacob’s Pillow (2005) and New York's Ballet Hispanico summer intensive (2009). In September 2009 she started this amazing journey teaching and performing as part of the Clancyworks Dance Company. Vanessa Sandler (Apprentice, AiE Teaching Artist) is a D.C. area native who graduated from Muhlenberg College in May 2010 with a BA in dance and business administration with a concentration in entrepreneurial studies. While attending Muhlenberg College Vanessa had the privilege of working with Corrie Cowart, Charles O. Anderson, Charlotte Boye-Christensen, Kathleen Bibalo, Susan Crietz, and Sarah Carlson. Vanessa performed throughout the Lehigh Valley Area. She was a member of the Six Meters improvisational ensemble, and had her work was presented as part of the Lehigh Valley Dance Exchange. Vanessa has most recently performed with Massive Attack and Contradiction dance companies, and has been an apprentice with ClancyWorks Dance Company since August 2010. Kathleen Weitz (Company Member) has been dancing and teaching in DC for six years. She studied at the Washington Academy of Performing Arts in their Conservatory High School, and later at London Studio Centre in London, England, where she earned her diploma in both classical and contemporary dance. She went on to tour the UK with Images of Dance, and has most recently performed with Washington Reflections Dance Company and Dana Tai Soon Burgess & Co. Kathleen has taught and choreographed for the Dance Institute of Washington, and currently teaches at Joy of Motion Dance Center. Kathleen has been dancing with ClancyWorks since 2009.
